WISE & Healthy Aging
Re-imagining an elder care nonprofit with longevity and inclusion in mind

Overview
WISE & Healthy Aging is a community-based nonprofit organization that assists the elderly in maintaining good health, discovering suitable long-term care facilities, and combating elder abuse.
In my contract role with WISE & Healthy Aging, I collaborated with their CEO and CIO to redesign their website and revamp their visual identity. Through user research and iterative design, I was able to craft an elder-friendly user experience that not only met the client’s goals but also exceeded user expectations. After launching the website, I continued on to update their marketing materials to be consistent with the visual identity of the new website.
For this project, I’ve organized my work for them into the UX portion and a brand design portion.
- Accessibility Design
- Information Architecture
- HTML/CSS/Markdown
- Taking a non-invasive, “in-place” design approach; understanding current user patterns and pain points to improve but not disrupt well-oiled user processes
- Learning Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and proper implementation.

User Experience Re-design
After mapping out the old site layout it was easier to see redundancies as well as highlight common user journeys.

- Reorganized site information architecture
- Incentivized user donation and optimized giving flows
- Simplified user flows for accessing urgent elder care services
- Applied visual identity guidelines to their branding assets for weekly email blasts, brochures, and posters
- Audited all visual assets to pass accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.0+)
- Created evergreen documentation for website maintenance to guide technical team post-contract term
